With a population exceeding 400,000 and many spreading districts, the city of Atlanta stands in Fulton County, in the state of Georgia. Atlanta has long been Georgia's capital city and is fairly easy to travel around, with good transport and clear sign posting.

Atlanta Orientation: Layout and Directions



Surrounded by the busy I-85, which runs north to south and is intersected by the I-20, Atlanta's main commercial and entertainment areas lie in this direction. The regions standing to both the east and west are known more for their historical buildings and landmarks.

Central Atlanta encompasses around four square miles and is situated to the south of the city's main urban area. Home to the main financial district, Atlanta city center is a thriving area and home to many spectacular modern skyscrapers, which give Atlanta its famous skyline.

Sited to the north of Atlanta's downtown district is the Midtown area, a notable part of the city which is rapidly expanding. Offering a host of theaters, cinemas and other entertainment venues, Midtown Atlanta also features a good selection of accommodation and restaurants. To the north of Midtown Atlanta is the Buckhead district, offering some of the city's most popular nightspots.
